This is an urgent video and blog post, thanks to Honey Chase for commenting on our Facebook page about it. I’m so busy editing videos, I’m rarely on Facebook! And since we are full-time RVers, we don’t receive our mail very regularly either.
I will put the vin numbers included in the recall down below. I carefully went through the vin numbers and our 2019 Grand Design Momentum 381M RV is not included on the list. But I will have my mail in a few days to double check for a possible recall notice.
Here is the link to the recall pdf here and the details on the Grand Design RV website:

Summary: On certain 2013-2021 Solitude, Momentum and Reflection Fifth Wheel & Travel Trailers, manufactured between January 1, 2013, and June 3, 2021, with LP gas refrigerators, a power wire behind the refrigerator may be secured incorrectly. Over time, the wire could move and contact the refrigerator cooling unit. This could damage the wire and cause electrical arcing. Electrical arching could create the risk of a fire.
After inspecting behind our Norcold RV refrigerator, we noticed several loose cables. One cable was wrapped around the cooling unit, which gets very hot. This is concerning even though we are not a part of the recall. For our RV experts out there. After watching the video, let me know what you think we should do.
Thanks to Grand Design RV for issuing the recall and notifying RV owners quickly. According to other Grand Design RV owners, Grand Design RV has authorized mobile RV techs to make the fix in some situations. I encourage you to check out the Grand Design Owners Facebook group as owners are starting to discuss their solutions for having the recall issue fixed properly.
This is a good reminder to test your smoke alarms and replace the backup battery during daylight savings time changes each year. Be sure to check your fire extinguishers and maybe have a few spares that are easily accessible. Russel Post shared this on our Facebook group a few days ago about burning candles in your RV. You should never try to put out a candle fire with water. The chemical reaction is like a small explosion and it can severely burn you and cause a larger fire. I was shocked by that information.

I also want to give our thoughts and best wishes to fellow RVers and YouTubers Andrew & Shae from RVing with Andrew Steele who lost their motorhome to a fire in the last few weeks. I will link to their video here and include links to a Go Fund Me and a Paypal account if you would like to help. RV fires are real and we want to work together to help make RVs safer from these catastrophic events.
Are you a part of this recall? Let us know below and if you have successfully had it fixed. As always, safe travels and Enjoy Your Journey friends!

Ya, you need to clean up that wiring on you water heater ASP !! That doesn’t look good at all.
There were recalls on Norcold 1200 lrim refrigertors years ago. We had a recall kit put on..but I was still concerned.. We were former boaters, and had a HALON System down in the engine area. I went to a marine store, and obtained a self contained HALON extinguisher that goes off with high heat. I installed it in that fridge compartment on the outside. Near the “chimney”. If it gets to hot it will set off HALON in that back fridge area, and will put out a fire… Cheap investment. that was my MOD fyi….rayHarkness@outlook.com
Wrapped around the cooling unit? Boy, that’s amazing- and shows the level of people putting these things together. Thanks Tom.
Just took our 2020 Grand Design Solitude out of storage 1 week ago. Too late to get it in for the recall work. Two days ago it started on fire in the driveway and burned to the ground within a few minutes. So so sad. We lost everything and our garage was also badly burned as the camper was only 5 feet from the garage. This is our 2nd Grand Design that we have problems with the propane. Luckily the 1st time the damage wasn’t as great. However this will be our last Grand Design.
Our Reflection was on the recall list and we were notified last year. We took it to our dealer for the fix. However, the recall involved the 110volt line alongside the refrigerator that would suffer vibration wear. Ours was fixed by tacking the loose cable to the wall of the slideout. I just looked at the wires in the back of the refrigerator and they could use a cleaning up as well, which I will do before we de-winterize. Thanks for the “heads up”, Tom!
