Can you enjoy the RV lifestyle and still maintain a social life?
One of the biggest fears for opting out of the RV Lifestyle is fear of a lack of socializing. I admit, sometimes I miss having a friend to ‘meet for coffee’ or for a ‘lunch date’ to chat over various girl things.
But really, being social just looks different when you travel full time. It’s easy to find other ways to ‘be social’ and have friends. I still socialize with my lifetime friends (on social media) but sometimes you miss having friends IRL (in real life), you know, the physical I-can-see-you-right-in-front-of-me friend! So, I am here to tell you that you can have that too!
How? How is that possible when you are constantly moving around the country?! Well, you won’t believe how many friends you make on the road! And you may be thinking, but you meet people and then you leave, to never see them again. Nope! We have made friends that we have seen several times. I mean, really, this RV traveling community is smaller than you think! And you end up in a lot of the same places quite frequently. You just have to stay in touch so you know where your friends are located. And there are so many ‘events’ that happen around the country at different times of the year, that SO many of your friends will be planning the event!
For example, we met some friends in Quartzsite at the RV show last year, and we will be seeing them again at the Tampa RV show this year! We met some friends at the Grand Design Rally in Indiana in August, ran into them in the Smoky Mountains, had a lovely evening at a winery, and we will be seeing them again at the Tampa RV show. We had some friends that were in the same RV park in the Florida Keys, and we will be seeing them in Tampa this year as well. And this is all in just a year. And this is just our RV friends!
Another way to socialize, is when you see your friends and family scattered all over the country as you travel around the US! Seriously, reconnect with old classmates, relatives you haven’t seen in ‘forever’! It is so much fun to reconnect, and seriously, it is like no time has passed. You really ‘pick up where you left off’ like no time has passed! Have you heard that before? It’s 100% truth.
There are also groups you can get involved in to stay connected. One is called RVillage. It’s an app and used as a social get together site for travelers like us. You even get notifications when members are in your area, and it’s FREE. There are other ‘clubs’ like Escapees, Family Motorcoach Association, RVing Women, etc. You will also meet new friends in the campgrounds and resorts where you stay.
And join my private Facebook group page (This link goes to our membership area on YouTube, just join at the ‘Behind the scenes access’ level to get instructions on how to join the private Facebook Group). I created this group especially for our women members so we can share and stay in touch. We will have meet-ups f2f (face to face) or IRL (in real life). It’s a place to share and encourage one another.
Do I still miss that last minute coffee with a friend? Sure I do, but I have been able to fill my social needs with so many other options, that my social calendar stays full and I wouldn’t trade this lifestyle for anything. I love it!
