We love our BIG RIG RV! We have a Grand Design Momentum 381M towed by our Ford F450! We don’t have a small footprint no matter where we travel to. We don’t even look that much smaller compared to other big rigs filling up at a truck stop as seen in our latest video.
So inevitably we get ourselves into some tight situations on the road. During our trip North, I lost my cool in a spaghetti mess of highways in Louisville, Kentucky. I missed my turn and had to take a detour through a not so big rig friendly part of town. But I relied on The RV Life App and RV Trip Wizard to guide me safely back in the right direction.
Unlike Google maps, RV Trip Wizard lets you enter the height of your RV into the app. So you never run into a low bridge you won’t fit under or a road that is too narrow for your RV. So check out our video above to watch our ‘close calls’ on the road and try out the free demo of RV Trip Wizard!

Hey Tom, we took our Ram 3500 and the Alpine 3712KB, which is a 42 foot long beast out on a maiden voyage. We attempted to look using RV Trip Wizard but struggled. It doesn’t appear to do real time tracking in case of accidents and so forth. At one point, it was going to reroute us and cause an additional hour for our trip. We continued to follow the semi’s past the rerouting point and had no issues. Is there a way to get real time directions like a google maps?
That F450 is the same size as an F350 dually with a better turning radius.

WE have dveloped our own approach to avoiding problems. I study the Google Maps Satellite to know which lane to use a rest stops, auto or truck. Then I look at every major city we will drive through each day. Construction hazards are the toughest to keep current. Just knowing drops the anxiety level of my co-pilot.
We depend on a RV Garmin 770 for our F450 diesel dually pulling a 43 foot North Point fifth wheel. .It also takes into account your height and length. We ran into a bit of a sticky situation in Montana….never again!!!
Which truck bed cover are you using on the F-450?
