We finally made it to the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, and then Cheri noticed smoke billowing out from underneath the RV. If you missed part one, you can find our blog post and video here!
We almost had to spend the night at Big Lots or Walmart while we troubleshooted the problem. Thankfully there was a Lowes Home Improvement store right around the corner with a huge parking lot. We spent the night at Lowes, and it was very quiet, and it felt safer than the other options.
After the repairs were completed, we finally made it to our campsite right across the border in Dillard Georgia. We stayed at a beautiful campground called River Vista Mountain Village. After settling in and getting a good night’s sleep, we headed up the road and met Cheri’s family for lunch in the cute little mountain town of Highlands North Carolina. Then we made our way to the cabin Cheri’s family had rented for an awesome dinner that evening!
As chance would have it, Chad and Tara from Changing Lanes were also in the area! We made plans to meet up at a cool little winery called 12 Spies Vineyards in Rabun Gap Georgia. Chad and Tara introduced us to the proprietors, Mike and Shelly Brown, who also plan to full-time RV. That’s right, this winery is for sale!
What do 2 men with 2 expensive drones do? Drone wars, Tom and Chad had fun seeing how close they could fly together without crashing! Haha!
Despite our challenges, this was such a fun trip spending time with family and great friends! This trip is a great reminder to always Enjoy the Journey no matter what the road or life brings. Now we head South toward Charleston, but before we get there, a quick overnight stop turns into a, well….let’s say another interesting experience! Remember to subscribe, so you never miss a video!

You didn’t tell us the cause of the smoke from under your RV, or what you did to fix it.
Hi. I’m Robin (m) and my wife is Carrie. We sold everything and have been full timing since Jan 2018, out of Macon GA and FL. She also vlogs a little on FB (CarrieIsraelThorpe)and Instagram( TravelEatPlayRepeat). Maybe we’ll meet up on our journeys. Safe Travels.
We visited the Dillard Georgia area in 2012, what a beautiful area. We’d like to visit again, fall with it’s color would be great!
Our gasser class A has turned 20, and I believe that the coolant hoses are still original. Not sure about the belt either. I do most of my own work, and it’s going to be an absolute bear to replace them. I’m still thinking about how I’d even get to them. We don’t get out much, you all may want to replace them all before there’s further issues.
Be safe out there!
